Lead Ophthalmology Health Technician

Work Schedule: Full-time, Monday thru Friday, 8:00 A.M. – 4:30 P.M
General Description: Ophthalmology technicians in the Veterans Health Administration (VHA) support ophthalmologists in diagnosis, treatment, prevention, follow-up care, and patient counseling. At the GS-9 Lead Level, the health technician (ophthalmology) performs difficult ophthalmic technical duties with considerable latitude for the exercise of independent judgment. The higher-level duties consist of significant scope, administrative independence, complexity (difficulty) and range of variety as described in this standard and be performed by the incumbent at least 50% of the time. The lead health technician (ophthalmology) carries additional responsibilities that involve the oversight of specific services within the ophthalmology clinic.

Affiliated with the University of Pennsylvania and numerous other allied health schools and colleges, the Philadelphia VA Medical Center offers comprehensive surgical, medical and psychiatric care to include special emphasis programs, alcohol and drug dependence treatment, and rehabilitative care.
