Ophthalmic Technician
Full-time ophthalmic technician needed for a state of the art, multi-specialty ophthalmology practice
located in Wilmington, Delaware. Exciting opportunity for an energetic and professional team player. Ophthalmology/retina or optometric experience a plus, but not required. Willing to train a motivated candidate.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, measuring visual acuity, obtaining ocular/medical history, tonometry, refractometry, contact lenses, retinal photography and special diagnostic testing. Major Responsibilities: Perform patient work-up: medical history and diagnostic testing in preparation for evaluation by doctor with appropriate supporting documentation;
Assist doctor at all stages of patient care and education; Ensure patient understands doctors diagnosis, treatment, and instruction;
Have knowledge of medications, ocular anatomy and physiology, disease, and procedures;
Assist with instrument set-up, procedures, correct waste disposal, instrument cleaning, and autoclaving;
Perform any other project assigned by the doctors, practice administrator, or clinic supervisor;
Instruct patient, administer test, and answer patient questions; and
assist fellow technicians in other pods by performing patient work-ups, patient call messages, or other tasks to help patient flow.
Typical Physical Demands: Requires prolonged standing, walking, some bending, stooping and stretching. Also requires intense concentration and ability to be consistent with repeated set up of procedures. Requires excellent communication skills. Must be able to express a caring attitude while performing the tasks required with accuracy and efficiency. Requires normal range of hearing and eyesight to perform necessary tasks needed during the assisting of patient care.
